Full disclosure… Jim and Sam Woods are friends of the SWS editors. We share many values around wooden boat ownership, and Jim has been generous with his support for this publication in addition to many other activities that promote traditional sailing.

The beautiful MARGARET PEARL has become a centrepiece of the southern Australian festivals and sailing events, and the way that she is maintained, but more importantly used, is a shining example of what wooden boat ownership should look like.

When Jim saw the article we published last week in SWS entitled “A Final Stitch Through the Nose” he wrote to us asking to remind the readers, that here in Melbourne we have a beautiful historic vessel that is ready and waiting, in survey, and most importantly very experienced in handling the most important and emotional moments of your family’s journey.

The full burial at sea, (uncremated body) is a big ask, but not impossible, but if you are looking for a scattering of ashes, or a betrothal, a family gathering, or even a corperate day out, then MARGARET PEARL should be top of your list. Jim is an experienced and confidence inspiring skipper. The catering options they provide have always been exceptional…And if you are thinking that winter is coming and its too late for 2025, think again. Winter is the best time of year to be on the bay…less wind…less people and… the tranquility that leads to meaningful moments.

If you're interested in a special day on the bay, have a look at www.margaretpearl.com.au or contact the current custodian Jim Woods via email – james.woods@eCollect.com.au.
